Gynecology and Obstetrics

The National Medical Centers' Gynaecology Department is a large busy department based in the Women's Centre offering a wide range of women's health services. Our specialist nursing staff offers advice and knowledge in our wards and outpatient areas on general gynaecological conditions, as well as the following.
A one-stop Menstrual Clinic:
               To avoid repeated visits to the hospital and lengthy waiting times for investigations, women are able to have a scan, see a consultant, undergo a hysteroscopy if necessary and receive the results and plan of care immediately, all in a two hour appointment.
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome:
               This clinic is staffed by reproductive gynaecologists and endocrinologists. At NMC we will make a diagnosis and draw up a treatment plan to assist in managing this common and distressing condition.
Early Pregnancy Assessment:
               GPs refer patients who are suffering problems in the early stages of their pregnancy, which is run 24/7 by nursing and medical staff. Women can also be admitted ward areas to Separate and VIP Rooms.
Urogynaecology:
               This sub-specialty investigates conditions such as stress incontinence and continence related problems. Physiotherapists and clinical nurse specialists support this service.
Pelvic:
               This is a multidisciplinary centre with urogynaecologists, physiotherapists and specialist nurses, which means it can quickly offer patients the appropriate treatment for their condition.
Gynaecological Cancer:
               A team of gynaecological oncologists and clinical nurse specialists plan and support the patient through the 'cancer pathway'.
Colposcopy:
               This service is supported by a clinical nurse specialist and a team of colposcopists.
Endometriosis:
               The Women's Centre at the National Medical Center is a national referral centre for the management of this debilitating and distressing condition, and in particular for severe cases. In collaboration with the Specialists Doctors of various Hospitals, there are Consultant Gynaecologists leading in the surgical ('keyhole') and non-surgical management of pelvic pain and endometriosis.
Pre-operative Assessment:
               Staffed by a qualified nurse and a doctor, National Medical Centre assesses patients pre-operatively to ensure they are fit for theatre.
Counselling Service:
               This service is for women needing support after termination / early loss of pregnancy or help coping with chronic gynaecological problems.
Menopause Clinic:
               The menopause service provides expertise for women who cannot be managed in primary care. Integrated with other specialists such as oncology, endocrinology and fertility, it provides a holistic approach to postmenopausal health with combined clinics.
